Synopsis

Private candidates in Pakistan register for Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA exams through the British Council's online system and must pay before each stage deadline. Cambridge May/June 2027 deadlines were not posted when checked. Last checked 16 October 2026.

The Challenge

Registering as a private candidate: the process and the live deadlines

Last checked: 16 October 2026, against the British Council Pakistan private candidate registration page. It currently lists Cambridge October/November 2026, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA January 2027 deadlines. It did not list Cambridge May/June 2027 dates, so do not trust any page that gives them as fact yet.

The registration process

  1. Register on the British Council School Registration System (SRS) and follow the instructions carefully.
  2. Pay the exam fees. Your application is not processed until payment is received. Fees per subject are shown inside the SRS.
  3. Get the paperwork to the British Council. The page says registration completes when the payment pink slip and registration summary reach the relevant British Council office. Do not sit on your forms.

You can pay online by card, ATM or IBFT into the virtual account you are assigned, or by bank draft or deposit at a designated Standard Chartered Bank branch. Card payments are subject to advance tax of 1% for filers and 3% for non-filers, and the British Council says that tax is not refunded.

Session Normal stage Late stage
Cambridge October/November 2026 6 August 2026 3 September 2026 (late and retake). Closed.
Pearson Edexcel International A Level, January 2027 9 October 2026 6 November 2026; late stage 2 on 20 December 2026
OxfordAQA IGCSE, January 2027 30 October 2026 8 December 2026
Pearson Edexcel GCSE and IGCSE, October/November 2026 7 September 2026 2 October 2026. Closed.

Cambridge deadlines fall months before the exams. The October/November 2026 normal deadline was 6 August, so check the page regularly for May/June 2027.

Rules that catch people out

  • You must pay by each stage deadline, not just register. A payment after the deadline counts as late and carries the late fee.
  • The ID number must be right. On exam day nobody sits without a valid original ID: a NADRA CNIC for Pakistani nationals, a B-form if under 18, or a passport for non-Pakistanis. One passage on the page also mentions a SMART card for under-18s, so confirm with the British Council which one your child needs.
  • The CNIC or B-form number is now mandatory in the Cambridge entry.
  • Special arrangements need a request at least six weeks before the exam date.
  • Withdrawing before the deadline costs an administration fee of PKR 1,500 per subject.
  • The British Council does not arrange around clashes between school and private candidates.

Why it is hard

  1. Several awarding bodies, each with its own sessions and deadlines.
  2. Payment and paperwork both have to arrive before the deadline.
  3. There is no support from a school exams officer, so every step is yours.
