CSS 2027 Written Exam Challenge: How the Stage After the MPT Works
Synopsis
CSS 2027 has two stages you must clear in order: the MCQ-based MPT screening test, scheduled for 10 October 2026, and then the written exam, which starts on 27 January 2027. Written-exam applications run 10 to 25 November 2026. Last checked 16 October 2026.
The Challenge
CSS 2027: what the written exam stage involves
Last checked: 16 October 2026, against FPSC’s public notice dated 19 August 2026 and news reports of its early-July 2026 advance schedule (APP, ARY News, Daily Times). The written-exam advertisement is due on 8 November 2026. When it appears, trust it over anything written here, including this page.
The CSS 2027 timeline
| Stage | Date | Note |
|---|---|---|
| MPT (MCQ-based preliminary test) | Saturday, 10 October 2026 | FPSC moved it from 27 September because a protest was announced for that day. The date has passed, so watch fpsc.gov.pk for results. |
| Written-exam advertisement | 8 November 2026 | Scheduled |
| Online applications for the written exam | 10 to 25 November 2026 | Scheduled |
| Hard copy and documents to FPSC | By 4 December 2026 | Scheduled |
| Written exam begins | 27 January 2027 | Scheduled |
Who can apply for the written exam
Only candidates who qualify the MPT can submit a written-exam application. If you did not sit or pass the MPT, you cannot apply in this cycle. Other conditions come from the CSS Competitive Examination Rules on fpsc.gov.pk, so read them against your own degree and age before you apply.
What comes after the written papers
Candidates who clear the written exam move on to a psychological assessment, a medical examination and an interview, according to coverage of the FPSC schedule.
Why this stage is hard
- A short window. Online applications stay open for 15 days, and the hard copy with documents must reach FPSC by 4 December.
- Limited preparation time. From today to the first paper is about 14 weeks.
- Writing, not recognising. The MPT is multiple choice. The written papers ask you to produce full answers under time pressure.
- Paperwork you cannot fix later. One missing document, or a detail that does not match your certificates, puts your application at risk.
Common mistakes
Waiting for the advertisement before collecting documents. Trusting forwarded dates, when the MPT date has already changed once. Reading notes without writing practice answers. Applying on the last day of the window.
