It looks at what chronic stress does to sleep, focus and memory, four techniques that genuinely help, and honest guidance on when stress needs professional support.
Chapter 1: Stress Isn’t the Enemy. Too Much of It Is
It’s tempting to talk about stress as something to eliminate entirely, and that’s actually the wrong target. A moderate amount of stress sharpens focus. It’s why a deadline gets more done than an open-ended afternoon, and why a bit of nervous energy before a presentation often produces a better performance than total calm would.
The problem isn’t stress itself. It’s stress that stays high for too long, without relief, until it stops sharpening anything and starts breaking things down instead: sleep, concentration, patience, mood. The goal of this book isn’t a stress-free life, which doesn’t really exist for anyone doing anything worthwhile. It’s learning where the line sits between useful pressure and the kind that’s actively working against you, and having a few real tools for pulling yourself back from the second kind when it shows up.
