Back to Challenge: LUMS Admission Challenge: How Undergraduate Admission Works
Synopsis
A 14-week LUMS plan: choose between SAT, ACT and LCAT, practise a 3-hour no-calculator paper, upload documents on time, and apply for financial aid or the National Outreach Programme. Last checked 15 October 2026.
The Solution
LUMS Admission Solution: Your 14-Week Plan for the Test and the Application
Last checked: 15 October 2026, against the LUMS admissions pages, testing requirements, admissions calendar, National Outreach Programme (NOP) page, financial aid page and the official LCAT sample paper. LUMS had not published the Fall 2027 dates when we checked, so this plan counts back from the Fall 2026 timeline, which is the last one published. Read the LUMS challenge page first for the dates and the facts about the class profile.
What you are preparing for: one admission test (the SAT, the ACT or the LCAT), an online application with documents, and, if you need support, a financial aid file or the NOP route. In the last cycle the application deadline was 27 January 2026, the LCAT was on 15 February 2026 and the financial aid deadline was 28 February 2026. If Fall 2027 follows the same shape (not confirmed), you have about 14 to 17 weeks from now, and this plan leaves room for slips.
Step 1: choose your test by week 2
- LCAT. LUMS’s own test, about 3 hours, multiple choice, verbal and maths, no calculators. It is similar to the SAT but the format and timing can differ.
- SAT. A College Board test that other universities in Pakistan also accept. The last SAT date LUMS accepted in the Fall 2026 cycle was 14 March 2026, but you need your score ready for your application, so plan an earlier date. See our SAT solution.
- ACT. Accepted too, with 11 April 2026 as the last date in the last cycle.
Our advice: if you are already preparing for the SAT for another university, one SAT score can serve both. If LUMS is your main target, the LCAT lets you practise the exact format with an official sample paper. Choose one, and do not split your time across all three.
Weeks 1 and 2: a baseline
Sit the official sample paper, which has 14 verbal questions and 10 maths questions, with no calculator. Sit a Bluebook SAT practice test if you are considering the SAT. Note your weak areas by domain. LUMS says the sample questions are general guidelines and that the real test may not cover every listed topic, so use them to learn the style, not to guess the paper.
Weeks 3 to 8: build the skills
Maths, with no calculator, one domain at a time: algebra, advanced mathematics (quadratics, exponentials, polynomials, absolute value), problem solving and data analysis (ratios, rates, percentages, statistics), and geometry and trigonometry. Verbal, every day: read one passage and answer questions on craft and structure and on information and ideas, then do a short drill on standard English conventions (grammar, punctuation, sentence structure) and expression of ideas (editing for clarity). Keep an error log and review it each weekend.
Weeks 9 to 13: full, timed practice
Take a full 3-hour paper each week under real conditions: no calculator, no phone, no breaks beyond the real ones. Sit it at the time of day your real slot will be. After each paper, spend as long reviewing it as you spent taking it.
Week 14: logistics and rest
Print your signed test registration slip. Check that your ID is a valid CNIC, government juvenile card or passport, because LUMS accepts no other form. Sleep, eat, and stop learning new material three days before the test.
The application track, in parallel
- Week 4: list every document the online application will need, and check the checklist on admissions.lums.edu.pk.
- Week 8: draft the written parts and ask someone to read them.
- Two weeks before the deadline: submit. In the last cycle the document upload deadline was listed as 28 January at 12:00 am, which is the same night as the 27 January application deadline, so treat them as one deadline.
- If you apply to law: also register for the Law Admission Test (LAT).
The money track
If you need financial support, begin the financial aid file when you begin the application. LUMS publishes a document checklist and a need assessment process on its financial aid site, and the deadline was 28 February 2026 in the last cycle. If you are in the first year of Intermediate or A-levels, have at least 80% in Matric (or equivalent O-level results) and have financial need, apply to the NOP Summer Coaching Session instead of waiting a year. For the 2026-28 pipeline, applications close on 23 February 2027 and documents on 25 February 2027. NOP gives you two weeks at LUMS in July and August, with all costs except travel covered.
Set a target without chasing a myth
The class of 2029/30 averaged 1380 on the SAT, 88% in FSc or ICS and 93% in Matric. Treat these as a stretch marker, not a cut-off, because LUMS publishes no minimum and no formula. LCAT marks are LUMS’s own, so do not assume they convert to SAT numbers. Keep your FSc or A-level marks strong, since LUMS looks at your academic record alongside your test score.
Always have a Plan B
Decisions arrive between April and July, so apply in parallel to other universities. See the FAST-NU, NUST NET and IBA challenges, and look at the HEC Need-Based Scholarship if a public university becomes your choice.

FAQ: LUMS admission preparation
Q: Can I prepare for the SAT and the LCAT together?
A: They overlap, because LUMS itself suggests SAT practice tests for LCAT preparation. Still, pick one test as your main target.
Q: What if the Fall 2027 dates are different?
A: Then adjust the plan. The structure stays the same: baseline, skills, full mocks, taper. Watch admission.lums.edu.pk and use the new dates as soon as they appear.
Q: Is the LCAT harder than the SAT?
A: LUMS says the format and timing may vary from the SAT, but gives no difficulty comparison. Practise the official sample to see the style.
Q: Do I need NOP to get financial help?
A: No. NOP is one route. LUMS also has merit scholarships and need-based financial aid through a separate application.
