The Challenge

LUMS Admission Challenge: A Test, a Deadline and a Financial Aid Form

Last checked: 15 October 2026, against the LUMS undergraduate admissions page, the testing requirements, the admissions calendar, the National Outreach Programme (NOP) application page, the financial aid page and the official LCAT sample paper. LUMS shows “Admissions Fall 2027, opening soon” and had not published the Fall 2027 dates when we checked. The dates below are from the last published cycle (Fall 2026) and show you how early the process starts. Confirm everything at admission.lums.edu.pk.

LUMS, the Lahore University of Management Sciences, admits undergraduates across five schools: business (Suleman Dawood School of Business), humanities and social sciences, science and engineering, law, and education. Education is listed with no undergraduate programme. Applicants are chosen on the programme requirements of the school they apply to, and LUMS says it considers academic results alongside other parts of the application. It publishes no merit formula and no minimum score for entry.

  • Admission decisions: 15 April to 31 July 2026
  • Tests accepted: the SAT, the ACT or the LCAT for every undergraduate programme. BA-LL.B (Honours) applicants also need the Law Admission Test (LAT)

Who gets in: the class of 2029/30

LUMS publishes a profile of the class it welcomed: more than 1,400 students admitted, an average SAT score of 1380, an average of 88% in FSc or ICS, an average of 93% in Matric, and an average of 8 A grades among O-level students. These are averages of admitted students. They are not cut-offs, and they are not a promise that a lower score will fail. They do show that strong marks and a strong test score go together.

What the LCAT is

According to the official sample paper, the LCAT is a multiple-choice test like the SAT, but its length and format can differ from the SAT. It takes about 3 hours. The verbal part covers craft and structure, information and ideas, standard English conventions and expression of ideas. The maths part covers algebra, advanced mathematics, problem solving and data analysis, and geometry and trigonometry. Calculators are not allowed. You must bring a printed, signed test registration slip and a valid CNIC, government juvenile card or passport. No other ID is accepted.

Paying for LUMS

LUMS says it supports about 1 in 4 students. Its undergraduate options include 100 merit scholarships, LUMS Financial Aid (a combination of loan and waiver covering tuition, semester registration fees and lab charges where they apply), and the National Outreach Programme scholarship, which covers admission, tuition, registration fees, lab charges, accommodation, meals and a stipend. Outside scholarships named by LUMS include the PHEC Honhaar scholarship, PEEF, and the Sekha scholarship, a 100% tuition waiver for FSc top-10 position holders who join the science and engineering school. Financial aid has its own deadline and its own documents.

The National Outreach Programme (NOP)

NOP is for students with at least 80% in Matric (or equivalent O-level results) and financial need. You apply in the first year of Intermediate or A-levels for a two-week Summer Coaching Session at LUMS. LUMS covers all session costs except travel, and for students who go on to apply it pays the application processing and test registration fees. NOP has no separate seats or regional quota, and every applicant is judged on the same admission criteria. For the 2026-28 pipeline, applications for the Summer Coaching Session close on 23 February 2027, the session runs in July and August, the LUMS application is in January or February 2028, decisions come between April and June 2028, and classes start in September 2028.

Why LUMS admission is hard

  1. The deadlines come early. In the last cycle the application closed in January, before FSc Part 2 results, so you plan around your results instead of waiting for them.
  2. There is no published cut-off. You cannot aim for a known number, so every mark counts.
  3. Two competitions in one. You are judged on your academic record and on your test score.
  4. Several separate deadlines. The application, the document upload, the test and the financial aid form each have a date.
  5. A no-calculator, three-hour test. The LCAT asks for speed and stamina.

Your LUMS challenge

Choose the test that fits your plans, practise it under real conditions, and keep every deadline in one calendar. If money decides whether you can attend, start the financial aid file at the same time as your application, and look at NOP if you are in the first year of Intermediate. The matching LUMS solution gives you a week-by-week plan.

Common LUMS preparation mistakes

Waiting for the Fall 2027 dates before starting to practise. Uploading documents a day late. Booking the SAT too close to the deadline. Treating the class averages as cut-offs. Forgetting that financial aid is a separate application. Missing NOP because you thought you were too early. Skipping the Law Admission Test when applying for law. Applying to only one university.
